  1. This poem basically tells people about how they forget where they came from . She is also talking about how people get caught up in the fame and luxurious lifestyle they forget about who they are . They forget about how hard those parents had to work and watch there children destroy it all . She feels as if when people make it in life they should give back to the people who made them who they are . People should never forget where they came from , Thats what this poem is saying .

  2. I really liked this poem. She said some things that some people can relate too. Some of them I knew and could relate too. She was saying even tho she had a somewhat hard childhood she was still happy because she was with er family and that is what matters the most. I feel this poem was very good and I enjoyed reading it

  3. In the poem Nikki Giovanni reflects back to her childhood past, she talks about how it was for blacks and how most black families situations were, and even though they didn't have much they were very much satisfied with what they did have. She talks about how they took things for granted like in this line:"and
how good the water felt when you got your bath".Back then it was rare to have your own house if you were a black family because of racism and poor low paying jobs, and if you did have a house you were lucky if you had a shower that worked. She says in the poem "Black love is Black wealth" what she means by this is what ever you had and the love you received from your family was like being rich and good enough for them.I like this poem, it was a very good read, and I would recommend this to any one.

  4. I like this poem because Nikki Giovanni talks about her childhood and how it was for blacks back in the days. She didn't have the best childhood but she had a family who meant the most to her. Her family felt pain and they didn't get to full fill their dreams. ~ amir smajlovic

  5. I think this poem was very strong and meaningful. She had hard times, but she didn't let them take her down. Back then times were hard for blacks, and they didn't have as much. But what she basically said and expressed was that blacks had a lot of love and heart to get through each day, and that blacks were not rich with money, but rich in personality. I also liked how she said that no white person could not write about her childhood, and how their were hard times, because she said she was happy.

  6. The poem is about black power. It shows the importance of family regardless of what they dont have, its about living for today. They cherish the moments and make everything count. Nikki put a lot of thought into her poem. It may also come across as a different type of genre to many.
